Hermandad de Sigma Iota Alpha, Inc. is a Latina-based sorority founded on September 29, 1990. From four different Universities in New York, 13 Lovely Latin Ladies came together and incorporated ideals which would promote excellence amongst women, the expansion of awareness of the Latino culture, and an essential understanding of sisterhood into this precious yet rare organization. These 13 inspiring women felt the necessity of starting something new, something that would emphasize on what every women strived towards, to be professional, strong and dedicated women leaders.
Coming from 4 SUNY schools, SUNY Albany, SUNY New Paltz, SUNY Stony Brook and Renssalaer Polytechnic Institute, RPI, these Lovely Latin Ladies gave birth to a new rare yet precious sisterhood where women with the same goals would come together to form a family. Our founders set out to create an organization that would meet their needs, help their communities, unite all women, and uphold a set of distinct goals. And so Hermandad de Sigma Iota Alpha, Incorporada has grown deeply ever since. With over 34 chapters and 6 colonies from the East to the West Coast, SIA has become one of the largest Latina Sororities in the world.
As we embark our fifteen years of Solidaridad, Inspiración and Amistad, Hermandad de Sigma Iota Alpha, Inc. strives to travel through new channels of involvement in the Latino Community while reinforcing our commitment to our philanthropies.
